A full service film production and post-production company based in Cyprus. It was established in 2005 by Marios Piperides, with the aim to produce high quality projects to both meet and compete with the European and International market. Over the years we have offered our services to a variety of local and international productions that were shot in Cyprus from feature and short films, to documentaries, TV Series and Commercials. In the past years, AMP Filmworks turned its focus on the development and production of projects in its own right and primarily feature films.
Petros Charalambous – Director
Petros' early exposure to photography, theater and art, as well as his need for emotional and visual expression led him to Hollywood where he studied film an d television directing at the California State University, Los Angeles. His work experience in USA includes a year at CNN/DNEW in Los Angeles.
In 2000 he returned to Cyprus, where he worked as a film director, for Lumiere Services until 2008. Since then, he works as a freelancer film director shooting mainly commercials, corporate and music videos, narratives and documentaries. Some of the commercials he directed were short listed for several international advertising competitions. Among others, in 2008 he directed several TV shows and live performances, the opera "Epitafios", the short film "Voices" and the feature documentary "The Fire Within". His short film "The Escape of the Queen" attended a lot of film festivals all over the world winning awards and distinctions. In post-production for the documentary "The Wisdom of Summit" and in development for the feature "Substitute". Boy on the Bridge is his first feature film.
A Fulbright Scholar, Stavros studied Film Production at New York University and later earned an MA in Screenwriting from the London Film School. His first feature, the multi-award winning Shirley Adams (2009), was part of the official selection at several international film festivals, including Toronto, Locarno, Rotterdam and London. Winner of three South African Film and Television awards, including best feature, the film was also nominated for the 2010 Ingmar Bergman International Debut Award, and the Sutherland Trophy. In 2010, Stavros was invited to the Working Title Films Residency and was selected to attend the prestigious Binger Film Lab, in Amsterdam where he developed his first feature as a writer/director, which has recently received MEDIA support and is planned start shooting early 2017. Stavros has several projects in active development, while his second feature, Turbulence, directed by Bafta-winning director Michael B Clifford.
Eve Makis – Co-Writer
Eve Makis was born in Nottingham to Greek Cypriot parents. She is the author of three novels and a tutor in Creative Writing at Nottingham University. In September 2008 she was appointed a reading champion by Nottinghamshire County Council’s Library Service, a role which involved giving talks at libraries throughout the region with the aim of promoting library use. She has been a guest speaker at numerous book clubs and literary festivals (including Winchester and Lowdham), while in December 2010 she was shortlisted for the Cyprus Madame Figaro Creative Woman of the Year Award. Her first book “Eat, Drink and be Married” won the Booksellers International Book of the Year Award. It is published in five languages and is used as a study text at the European University in Cyprus. Her new book, a crime novel set in Cyprus, is currently in the hands of her agent, while she is finishing her second feature length script.
Marios holds an M.F.A. in Film Production, B.A. in Film and Video Production, and a B.Sc. in Broadcast Management. Parallel to his studies in the US he worked on various professional productions there, gaining on hands experience.
After returning to Cyprus in 2002, he landed a job with one of the largest production companies in Cyprus, as a Production Manager and later as a Producer. For three years he was involved in handling projects from all over the world, including NHK and TV Asashi (Japan), RSA Films, Discovery Channel (UK), RTL (Germany), Kailush Pictures (India), Otto Films (Poland), Science Channel (USA), and a number of projects from Greece, Egypt, Kazakhstan, Romania, and Russia.
Having gained extensive experience, handling demanding projects and dealing with different national backgrounds and work ethics, Marios started his own production company, AMP Filmworks, in 2005, and turned his focus to producing Feature Films and Documentaries. Between 2009 and 2011 he was hired by the Cinema Sector of the Ministry of Education and Culture, to monitor film productions and contracts and evaluate film proposals and scripts for funding.
In 2011, after two years of invaluable experience in the public Cypriot and European Cinema Sector, he returned fulltime to cinema production in order to fully focus on the development and expansion of his own company. Amongst other projects, he is currently the Producer of five feature length films: three shot in 2013 and two in development and planned to shoot between 2014-2016.
